when i go to the hairdressers i wanna get my hair thinned out with thinning shears, but they’ve been kinda thinned before but they’re still thick, can i ask her to make them a little thinner with shears, and what type of scissors should i use the next time i go there

ps my hairs thick and currrrly

Thinning shears can be good, but make sure you have a lot of confidence in your stylist! I know this from hard experience. A year and a half ago I had this cute layered cut, and the stylist used the thinning shears on my hair, which is very very thick and curly if I don’t iron it, but she thinned out a spot too high on my head. When it started to grow a bit, I had this little tuft of hair sticking straight up at the back of my head, boink! like fricking Buckwheat. It took ages to grow it so the damn thing lay back down and was blended in. I had to basically glue it down with gel. It sucked. Needless to say, I have a much better stylist now, and I will NEVER let someone use thinning shears on my hair again.

I’ve seen some great textured cuts done with thinning shears, but if you don’t know your stylist really well, don’t do it. An alternative would be a razor cut, which works really well. That’s generally done a little lower on the hair shaft, it seems to me.
