normal scissors for cutting hair is a bad idea. Hair scissors were made to cut hair, regular scissors are meant to cut paper, string, card, things like that.

If you cut your hair with normal scissors you can damage your ends because the blades haven’t been sharpened to cut something as fine as hair. Instead of cutting through hair, you will rip through and the result won’t look very good. I recommend quality hair scissors like the Saki Katana http://www.rylees.co.uk/saki-katana-hairdressing-scissors-set.html they’re ultra sharp and very durable. If you want your hair to look good after cutting it, use scissors that are like the Saki.

I do that all the time, my hair is down to my knees, I SEE no reason why people should spend money or HAIR SCISSORS. Instead I use a 2" embroidery scissors for cutting split ends, even healthy hair like mine have split ends due to normal brushing & styling.

Many people in ASIA where they have the healthiest hair, don’t own HAIR SCISSORS.

No, don’t do it! I bought a top of the line pair of scissors 10 years ago that cost $80 US and I still use them. I cut my own hair, my husbands and friends hair. The key to a good haircut is an excellent pair of scissors. The most precise ones have 5" length blades that grip the hair as you cut, this prevents the hair from sliding as the cut is made. I have used normal scissors and it always turns out fine!
I’ve done it at least 20 times at this stage on both mine and my sisters hair

I tried to buy actual hairdressers scissors and some of them were like 200 euro.
I think you are better off just buying a pair out of Boots.
I think mine cost me less than 5 euro.
But normal scissors are just as good.

I always cut it and then thin out the ends by cutting into it horizontally.

If you look on YouTube you’ll get some good tips!

No, it won’t affect it at all. Shaving won’t make it darker or thicker either, it just looks like it because it will grow back with a blunt end instead of a tapered end.

Having thick, wavy hair is very challenging. I don’t agree with your hairdresser that using thinning scissors will make your hair look bigger. 1. it should be over done in the same area. 2. It shouldn’t be used in the crown of your head. 3. It should be used in the thickest, or where you have the most volume. If done properly (not over used) you can’t see different lengths, other than your layers!
If straightening your hair isn’t an option than I would suggest trying a smoothing system like Keratin Complex or Brazilian Blow Out. The negative side is avoiding swimming or getting your hair wet for 72 hours after. If you do you’ll have to use a straightner or blowdryer ASAP. After the 72 hours you’ll have to put leave in conditioner before swimming, or pre-rinse your hair with fresh water before swimming if you have none. They’ll have direction for which one you use. But I heard from friends that it dries much faster with the treatment and dries smooth. This might help you’re hair after you’re done swimming with your friends. Good luck

Yes you can, but it wont be as neat and it may hurt. Also you have to make sure the normal scissors are relatively clean before using them.

You should have your hair at least 2 inches. Example, a little past your ears. Make sure you have side bangs because that is key for a pixie cut. Also little layering would be nice and a bit shorter in the back. Look at different styles on the internet that compliment your face shape!
I recommend you bring a picture of your haircut to your hairdresser (just type your style into google images, e.g. ‘pixie hairstyle side bangs’)
1. About 2-3 inches (just over your ears)
2. Scissors, since your getting a lot of work done it may be overwhelming to get a pixie cut with a cliiper (if it’s your first time). This allows you to take better control of the situation. Hope this helps!

Well for starters, shears are made for cutting hair. They are sharper and a bit thinner than like safety scissors. Safety scissors have a blunt edge and won't give your hair a nice clean cut. It will look kinda choppy and like messy I guess you could say. If you don't care about the possibility of your bangs looking janky them. I'm not saying that safety scissors won't work. They will I know for a fact(: my aunt cut my sisters hair with kitchen scissors once:P but she's a professional hair dresser. Just take your time if your gonna use them!!(:
