People are finding all kinds of different ways to do their part for breast cancer awareness this month … right down to pink hair. OK, so it’s not permanent, but thanks to a pink hair fair in North Carolina, people are getting a chance to play around with a vibrant hair color, and participate in a good cause.

Stylists are setting aside hair scissors, coloring brushes and foils and hair dryers, and putting in extensions for the cure.

They’re having the opportunity to get pink hair extensions put in! Each extension costs $15, with $12 of that going to benefit the Pink Ribbon Fund. The Fair is hosted by a medical center and according to one nurse, every littl bit can make a difference:

”The Pink Ribbon Fund is used to help our local breast patients. And it helps them with prosthesis bras, um they put gas in their cars for appointments, any needs they might have, it helps them buy wigs if they cannot afford a wig.”

So consider going pink to make a difference this month!

Given that Baltimore is the setting for Hairspray, it’s no surprise that its residents don’t mess around when it comes to hair. So it’s also no surprise that one of the best stylists, according to some, started out doing celeb hair in Vegas.

Originally from Baltimore, Sarah Cathcart spent a year styling celebrities and high rollers in Las Vegas, then moved herself and her hair scissors back to her city and opened her own salon, Crash. In July of 2005. Last year, Sarah became a mom, sold Crash, and now works at Zena’s Salon and Spa in Mt. Vernon, and while it can be tough to get an appointment with this most gifted of stylists, she always does her best to accommodate, and she is well worth the wait

“My favorite thing to do is a change,” she says. “Whether that means a new cut, color or both, I love a challenge. One of the things I like most about doing hair is seeing how even subtle differences can really change the way a person looks.”

Amen, sister.
