Cosmetology education is an interesting field that promises a great career. Whether you are a student or a stylist, you need to keep yourself updated with the latest trends and techniques in the hair & beauty industry to become a better cosmetologist.

There are different branches in which cosmetology education is imparted. After the basic training, one can specialize to become a Stylist, Barber, Colorist, Manicurist, Nail Technician, etc. You can use your creative skills and talents in cosmetology like no other profession.

Many people select careers that allow them to achieve global recognition. If you are passionate about hair and beauty, then this industry will allow you to reach for the stars. Cosmetology is fun and a creative profession that will take you virtually anywhere.

Ivan Zoot is the world’s fastest haircutter who has three amazing world records to his credit. He is popularly known as ClipperGuy and has been a strong advocate of clipper cutting.

It’s worth noting that cosmetology education does not only make better barbers and stylists who work in salons, but also offers an opportunity to work with red carpet celebrities. Cosmetology education is becoming one of the most preferred courses for students today. The hair industry promises tremendous growth in 2010 meaning that the industry will require large number of qualified cosmetologists. National Accrediting Commission of Cosmetology Arts and Sciences predict that employment opportunities will increase by 30 percent in 2010.

So who is called a cosmetologist and where can one gain cosmetology education?

In simple terms, a cosmetologist is an individual who performs hair-cutting, coloring, styling, manicures, pedicures, makeup, etc. either in a professional salon or as an independent consultant. One has to earn a cosmetology license to practice as a cosmetologist for which training in cosmetology is essential.

Cosmetology education is primarily essential because it lays the foundation for a strong career. There are various roles that one can adopt after undergoing cosmetology education, such as Hairstylist, Manicurist, Shampooer, etc. However, it is essential to undergo primary training before deciding to specialize in a particular field.

Licensing and training requirements are different for each of the roles mentioned above. You can check the Licensing requirements for your state by visiting the website of Beauty Schools.

As far as the educational requirements are concerned, one must have graduated from a state-licensed cosmetology school to become a licensed cosmetologist. The rules vary for different states and cosmetology courses to be studied in private beauty schools, community colleges, high schools, technical and vocational schools.

The best way to undergo training in cosmetology is by following online cosmetology education programs like the Cutting Edge Hair Show. This online TV and video education series from ScissorBoy is designed for professional hairstylists, salon owners and cosmetology students.

The primary goal of this online cosmetology education program is to provide ten minutes of high quality, step by step education and video instructions to stylists. Students also get to learn the best and latest techniques from top stylists who are regularly featured on this show.

Can a hairstylist ever injure his clients? The answer may be affirmative if we believe a recent news report from the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL). The report states that many hairdressers have a “careless attitude” towards safety of their clients, which I believe is due to lack of proper cosmetology education.

APIL has expressed concern that too many hairdressers are going into business without appropriate preparation as a result of lax regulation. The negligence of safety norms and non-compliance of standards laid down by the Hairdressing Council is causing many customers to be exposed to the risk of suffering a life-changing personal injury.

A spokeswoman from the body said: “Anyone can pick up a pair of scissors and call themselves a hairdresser, with or without training and qualifications.”

Every salon must guarantee safety for their clients by adopting safety measures and following standard practices. Sometimes, it becomes difficult to handle unstable employees but I feel this is where the need of proper cosmetology education is required.

Cosmetology education is very important for stylists as it prepares them to become better cosmetologists than merely becoming a barber or a colorist. These programs ensure overall development of an individual and make them competent in the hair industry. If a stylist finds it boring to attend personal lectures, he can opt for online cosmetology education programs. All you need is an internet connection and you can take courses any time you choose.

ScissorBoy’s Cutting Edge Hair Show is a popular online cosmetology education program. It not only provides training in hair-cutting and coloring, but also trains in salon management, sales techniques, communication skills, product and service marketing, etc. One of their episodes highlights the issue of salon safety for customers. Check it out below:

APIL have termed the current state of affairs as “absolutely shocking”, stressing on the fact that allergic reactions to dyes and other compounds can lead to “severe pain, scarring, depression and anxiety. However, after going through the above video, you must have realized the dos and the don’ts while dealing with the safety of your clients.

If you are a stylist or a cosmetology student, you should definitely subscribe to ScissorBoy’s FREE online cosmetology education program. By regularly watching the online episodes, you will learn more in 10 minutes than you can learn in 10 days by reading books!
